Last year Sony announced the Xperia Pro 5G pretty closely alongside the Xperia 1 II, but it was never released in the US. We’re pretty far on with a slew of other 5G phones almost ready to launch, but Sony might finally be bringing over their best connected device to US markets very soon.
Xperia Pro 5G US launch
The Xperia Pro 5G was strikingly similar to the Xperia 1 II, but it offers mmWave 5G connectivity, giving it a broader range of connection options depending on the market that you’re in. Things like the cameras and display are the same, so the two aren’t well differentiated, especially with the lackluster 5G rollout we’ve seen.
Sony did try and spice it up with things like redesigned antenna layout, an HDMI micro connector to directly plug up to your camera, and a dedicated shortcut key, but otherwise it’s like a very incrementally upgraded flagship.
Sony’s servers have listed a US software build for the phone, though, which would seemingly only happen if the phone was going to be sold in US markets. Unfortunately, that’s about all we have to go on, but with a large number of 5G flagship phones due to launch very soon, I can’t imagine Sony would want to wait much longer. And at the very least, I hope they stick to an aggressive pricing strategy, especially since it’ll still be using the Snapdragon 865 CPU.
