Vivo X60 Pro Plus launches with Snapdragon 888, top-end camera system

Vivo has launched the X60 Pro Plus, and it’s packing specs that should make Samsung a little bit nervous.

It’s an improvement over the company’s previously announced X60 and X60 Pro from last month, which utilized Samsung’s Exynos 1080 CPU. The X60 Pro Plus takes those phones, and beefs up the hardware and cameras to offer a real flagship experience.

So what’s different, exactly? Well, as we mentioned, Vivo has swapped out the Exynos 1080 CPU for a Snapdragon 888. That’s guaranteed to improve performance and camera capabilities over the Exynos flavor, and keeps Vivo competitive with the rest of the high-end market.

The camera hardware is better as well, with a 50MP Samsung GN1 sensor replacing the main shooter, while the 48MP ultrawide camera picks up the gimbal stabilization that the main sensor loses. There’s a 32MP telephoto lens and an 8MP periscope lens, rounding out a very capable set of cameras. Vivo talks up its night mode, 100MP mode utilizing multiple cameras, and a fancy color restoration mode for black and white photos.

As of right now, there’s no global release date for the X60 Pro Plus; you can only get this in China for the time being. Vivo is asking about 5,000 yuan (roughly $770) for the base 8GB/128GB model, while the expanded 12/256GB version will cost about 6000 yuan, or $930. It ships with Android 11 under Vivo’s custom skin, and will be available in gray or orange leather.
