Samsung has begun rolling out the January 2021 Security Patch to the Galaxy S9 & S9+

Galaxy S9

It seems that time and time again we are praising Samsung for its efforts in keeping its vast array of devices updated, even its aged Galaxy Tab S2 received a security patch towards the end of 2020. Now it’s the turn of the venerable Galaxy S9 and S9+ to make waves as Samsung’s first phones to receive the January 2021 Security Patch, which is pretty surreal when you think about it.

Almost three years old now, the Galaxy S9 and S9+ are getting pretty long in the tooth but still have some life left in them thanks to the ongoing update schedule. The OTA is currently rolling out in Germany, coming in at a 113.48MB download with build number G960FXXSDFTL1 for the Galaxy S9 and G965FXXSDFTL1 for the Galaxy S9+. As per usual, Samsung hasn’t given a changelog for the update but given its small size, this isn’t a surprise update to Android 11.

While the update is presently rolling out in Germany before other regions join in, it’s always worth heading over to Software Update in Settings to prod the Download and Install button a couple of times to see if you can prompt the download.
