Dell Announces the 5K UltraSharp 40 Curved Monitor Ahead of CES 2021

Dell has taken the wraps off of its refreshed UltraSharp monitors, including what it is calling the world’s first 40-inch, ultrawide, curved WUHD monitor, ahead of the all-virtual Consumer Electronics Show. We expect a wide range of computing products at CES 2021, and Dell is coming out strong already.

The new lineup of computer monitors covers a wide range of sizes and prices and aims to “elevate work experiences and boost employee productivity.�

Dell UltraSharp 40 Curved monitor

Leading this refreshed lineup is the Dell UltraSharp 40 Curved Monitor (U4021QW.) Coming on January 28 starting at $2,100, Dell says this monitor has 35% more on-screen space than a 32-inch 4K 16:9 screen.

Dell is specifically calling it the world’s first 40-inch, curved, ultrawide WUHD 5K2K monitor, based on publicly available data of competitive products seen in October 2020. For reference, it is two inches bigger than LG’s option, the 38-inch LG 38WN75C.

Looking at specifications, the IPS monitor has a 2500 radius curved screen, which creates a wider field of view, minimizes reflection, and offers near-uniform visual focus for a comfortable, wraparound view. Its resolution comes in at 5,120 x 2,160, or 140 PPI, for a great pixel density. The monitor also has integrated dual 9-watt speakers. It covers 98% of the DCI-P3 color gamut and 100% of the Adobe sRGB spectrum.

Connectivity includes DisplayPort 1.4, two HDMI 2.0 ports, a Thunderbolt 3 port (with up to 90 watts of charging,) a USB Type B port, a USB-C downstream port for charging, four USB-A ports, and a 1x “superspeed� USB-A, as well as an RJ45 Ethernet jack and an 3.5mm jack for audio.

Dell UltraSharp 38 Curved USB-C monitor

Directly behind the Dell UltraSharp 40 Curved Monitor is its smaller sibling, the UltraSharp 38 Curved USB-C Monitor (U3821DW.) Also coming on January 24, it is the less expensive curved option, starting at $1,500.

Highlight features on board this monitor include the 2350 radius curved screen, as well as its WQHD+ 3,840 X 1,600 resolution. While this is a lower resolution and a smaller radius than the UltraSharp 40, the vertical height of 1,600 pixels means you can see more with less scrolling. The monitor also covers 95% of the DCI-P3 color space.

It features DisplayPort 1.4, two HDMI 2.0 ports, a USB Type-C port, a superspeed USB 3.2 Type B upstream port, three USB 3.2 Gen 2 downstream ports, a USB 3.2 Gen 1 charging port, and a USB Type-C downstream port, as well as a 3.5 mm audio jack and an RJ45 port.

Dell UltraSharp 27 and UltraSharp 24 USB-C Hub monitors

Coming in March and starting at $680 and $460, respectively, will be the UltraSharp 27 and 24 USB-C Hub Monitors (U2722DE/U2422HE.) These two midrange monitors are all about their brilliant color and borderless InfinityEdge design as seen on the XPS lineup. The monitors have barely any bezels, making for a more modern and efficient design.

The larger UltraSharp 27 USB-C Hub comes with a QHD resolution of 2,560 x 1,440. This is better than budget FHD displays, as you’ll be able to see 1.77 times more detail than usual.

Connectivity options include an RJ45 jack and USB-C, so you can enjoy a stable Ethernet connection, as well as charging up to 90 watts to power your laptop with a single cable. Color coverage includes 100% of Adobe sRGB and 95% of the DCI-P3 spectrum.

Now, for the smaller monitor, the Dell UltraSharp 24 USB-C Hub. This budget-friendly USB-C monitor features Full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution on a spacious 23.8-inch screen. Like all the other monitors so far, it comes with Dell ComfortView Plus, which optimizes the display for eye comfort. Color spectrums include 100% Adobe sRGB and 85% DCI-P3.

Dell UltraSharp 24 and UltraSharp 27 monitors

The budget options in Dell’s refreshed lineup include the Dell UltraSharp 24 and 27 monitors. Coming on March 30, these monitors are prices at $580 and $360, respectively.

These monitors are nearly identical to the more expensive UltraSharp 27 and 24 USB-C Hub Monitors, but with more traditional connectivity options. The features are the same between the monitors, including the QHD  and FHD resolution, as well as the slim-bezel design. These monitors also support ComfortView Plus.

Dell 24/27/34 Video Conferencing monitors

Though not related to the UltraSharp lineup, Dell is also launching a series of three monitors dedicated to videoconferencing. The Dell 24 Video Conferencing Monitor (C2422HE), Dell 27 Video Conferencing Monitor (C2722DE), and Dell 34 Curved Video Conferencing Monitor (C3422WE) all are the first videoconferencing monitors certified for Microsoft Teams.

These series of monitors have a one-touch dedicated Microsoft Teams button. There’s also a pop-up 5MP IR camera, dual five-watt integrated speakers, and noise-canceling microphones.  The webcam is also Windows Hello certified for secure logins. The 24-inch version is priced at $520, the 27-inch version at $720, and the larger 34-inch version at $1,150.
